Module 2

Welcome to Module 2 of our course!

In this Module, which runs from September 29-October 20 , we’ll build on our learning about literacy communities by examining the forms and features of academic reading and writing.  The main ways we’ll do this are:

  • choosing, reading, and collaboratively summarizing a college-level peer reviewed article
  • engaging this “authority” with other sources, including your lived experience as a reader
  • analyzing the form of an academic source, including its citation practices and text features
  • recognizing the importance of sources and their influence to our own “lineage” as writers
  • discussing and agreeing on sound, equitable norms and roles for your work in book groups

There are a number of activities that will help us do this. Some of them are listed on the syllabus, some will emerge from class discussion and writing tasks.

All will hopefully help us think about the big goal: understanding academic reading and writing and using that understanding to inform our learning experiences in the Module 3 book groups.
